Christmas time is not just a time for spending time with family and friends, first and foremost it is a time for frantically searching for presents. For your foodie friends and those with a sweet tooth, I make these little cakelets in jam jars: in the fridge, they last for a good 4 weeks (or two, if they contain fresh fruit).
Cakes in jars are incredibly easy to make: simply grease the jars well and line the bottom with a piece of parchment paper.
As for the cakes, simply make your normal mix which will fill 6-8 jars, depending on the size, or have a look at the minicake recipe I posted in April. I made these Linzer Torte cakelets the other day when I had too much dough left over:
Watch this space – a batch of gluten-free orange cakelets are in the oven as we speak!

Such a clever idea!!

They were really popular a few years back in Germany – I always have one in the fridge, whenever I have a bit of dough left over because I am using a smaller cake tin, I bake a wee one on the side 🙂 Over to check my advent calendar at the Glen House now …

What a clever idea. I have a few recipients in mind already and this is a much better idea than traipsing through the shops looking for presents.

I just don’t like those random gifts you can buy, but I’m all for one cake fits all 😉

It works with most types of cake – I even use it for Victoria sponge, when I feel like a little one I simply cut and fill it 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
